Precious in His Sight by Greg Olson

Precious in His Sight

In this painting, Jesus shows the child on his lap a butterfly on the end of His finger.  The artist Greg Olsen says he likes to imagine Jesus teaching the child a lesson: just as the butterfly doesn’t know its destiny when it’s a tiny caterpillar, so do we sometimes forget what our glorious destiny is when we are in our earthly ‘cocoon’ stage.1

Olsen described the feeling of this painting this way:  “Under His watchful eye, a tiny sprout grows to a lovely, fragrant flower, the drab cocoon brings forth the beautiful butterfly, and the Babe in the lowly manger becomes the Prince of Peace! These miracles bring wonderment and awe to our hearts, warming our souls like rays of sun on a spring morning, reminding us of an eternal truth—that all things are precious in His sight.”2
