Christ in the Red Robe

“For we labor diligently to write, to persuade our children, and also our brethren, to believe in Christ, and to be reconciled to God; for we know that it is by grace that we are saved, after all we can do.  And we talk of Christ, we rejoice in Christ, we preach of Christ, we prophesy of Christ, and we write according to our prophecies, that our children may know to what source they may look for a remission of their sins” (2 Nephi 25: 23, 26).

Regardless of the variation with which individual artists ‘see’ Christ in terms of His physical appearance – He unwaveringly remains “the way, the truth, and the life” (John 14:6).  He is the provider of redemption and mercy, as well as the ultimate teacher and exemplar.  As part of his predestined mortal mission, He willingly atoned for the sins of every individual, and was resurrected so that all may also live again.

Among his numerous descriptive titles, his name has been called: “Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace” (Isaiah 9:6), Light of the World, Holy Messiah, Lord God Almighty, “Man of Holiness…Son of Man…a righteous Judge” (Moses 6:57), Governor, “chief corner stone” (Ephesians 2:20), Holy One of Israel, King of Zion, Son of God, Jehovah, “my strength and my song…my salvation” (Isaiah 12:2), the Good Shepherd, Eternal King, “the Firstborn, even of God, the holiest of all” (D&C 88:5), Prince of Life, Anointed One, Redeemer of the World, “Mighty One of Jacob” (1 Nephi 21:26), Alpha and Omega, Son of the Highest, “dayspring” (Luke 1:78), the Word, “the King of all the earth; and also the King of Heaven” (Alma 5:50), the messenger of salvation, “head over all things to the church” (Ephesians 1:22), Word of Life, Christ the Lord, “the root and the offspring of David, and the bright and morning star” (Revelation 22:16), chief shepherd, Rock of Heaven, the bread of life, Lord of lords, King of kings, Only Begotten of the Father, the Savior, “stone of Israel” (D&C 50:44), Lamb of God, Son of the Eternal Father, Creator, “Lion of the tribe of Juda” (Revelation 5:5), Lord of all, the Mediator, “Bishop of your souls” (1 Peter 2:25), the resurrection, the true vine, “the very Eternal Father of heaven and of earth, and all things which in them are; he is the beginning and the end, the first and the last” (Alma 11:39), the Spirit of truth, your advocate with the Father – and “your Lord and your God, and your Redeemer” (D&C 18:47).
